As part of a new campaign to help raise awareness of the importance of Organ Donations and boost the number of UK Donors, we are proud to have had the campaign placed on the rear of two new trailers.
A launch day was held at the company’s head office in Lancashire along with East Lancashire Hospital staff, local media and the families of both Emily and Adam who’s stories feature in the campaign.
Angie Ditchfield, Clinical Lead for Organ Donation at NHS Blood & Transport, commented: “Sincere thanks to the owners of Fagan & Whalley for donating the valuable space on their vehicles and helping to raise the profile of organ donation.”
Stephen and Graham Fagan have personal reasons for supporting the national drive to increase the number of organ donors.
“This subject has a special meaning for our family,” says Fagan & Whalley director, Stephen Fagan. “Our mum needed dialysis for many years and it had a profound effect on our family life. A kidney transplant transformed her life.”
The number of people waiting for an organ transplant currently totals 6,909, and despite increases in the number of people benefiting from an organ transplant, 3 people still die needlessly every day before they get the organ they need – that’s over 1,000 people every year.
“To save a life is an amazing thing,” says Dawn Lee, North West Organ Donation Team Manager. “People say no only because they fail to know their family member’s wishes.”
“As well as encouraging people to sign up to the register, we are really keen that people share their wishes and opinions about organ donation with their family and friends,” adds Angie Ditchfield. “
“By discussing end of life wishes and decisions in advance, it can help to reduce stress and anxiety at what is already a very difficult time.”
