What are the hours during the training?

Courses run from 8am to 5pm daily. The timings for the test day may differ depending on the time your test is due to take place.

Do I need a driving licence?

Yes, you will need a full Class B UK driving licence before you can commence your LGV training.

Do I need to have some LGV experience before I start my training?

Our comprehensive training programmes are designed to provide you with all the relevant knowledge and skills you need to become a safe and successful LGV driver, so previous experience with LGVs is unnecessary. Our DVSA-certified trainers each have a wealth of experience training drivers with and without previous LGV experience.

Where is the training held?

All training is conducted in-house at one of our Fagan & Whalley depots, as appropriate.

What kind of vehicle will I train in?

Your initial training will take place in an 18-tonne rigid vehicle. If you show the appropriate proficiency, you will then be offered further training in a 38-tonne articulated tractor and trailer unit.

How long will it take for me to complete my training?

The training for each licence takes five full days.

Will there be other people on the course?

Yes, there are likely to be other students taking the same course as you. However, all training is offered on a one-to-one basis, so you will not be sharing a vehicle with another student.

What types of roads will I drive on?

You will be trained to drive on all types of roads.

Will I be driving on the motorway?

Yes, this forms part of the LGV driving test.

Will I sleep in the vehicle?

You will not be required to sleep in the vehicle during the training period.

Will I need to complete a test?

Yes, a theory and a practical test will need to be passed before you can receive your licence.

Is the test all practical, or will there be a theory test too?

Much like with the standard UK driving licence test, the LGV test is delivered in two parts, with a theory module and a practical module.

How much does the training cost?

The cost to become a fully qualified LGV driver with a C+E driving licence and a Driver Certificate of Professional Competence would normally be over £3,000.

Do you offer any flexible payment plans?

Unfortunately, flexible payment options are not available at the moment.

Am I guaranteed a job at the end of my training?

All students who complete their training successfully with Fagan & Whalley are given the opportunity to apply for a position with the company.
