Team Focus: Life as a Transport Planner

At Fagan & Whalley, our people are at the heart of everything we do… But what is that, exactly? You may be familiar with the Fagan & Whalley name, having seen our trucks on the roads of the UK, but how much do you know about the people behind our operations?

In this series of articles, we speak with colleagues across departments to shed some light on what’s involved with their role and the part they play regarding the grander scheme of things here at Fagan & Whalley.

For this edition of team focus, we are speaking to Craig Hardman, a transport planner based at our Padiham depot.

With a central planning office set up at our Padiham Depot and supported by planning teams based at our Frontier ParkCoventry & Newport depots, the staff in our Transport Planning department, overseen by F&W Managing Director – Operations Daniel Fagan, and are responsible for keeping everything moving!

“The team that looks after our transport operations functions as the beating heart of everything we do,” explains Daniel. “The Transport Planning department serves as a 24-hour operation, with dedicated day and night planning teams keeping our articulated fleet moving around the UK and ensuring the consignments of our clients are all taken care of and delivered on time.

“As a team of 22 colleagues, the responsibilities for this department are broadly split into two core areas, with a proportion of the team taking care of the load and journey planning for the vehicles in our articulated fleet and the remaining team members looking after the return-load and subcontract side of things.
