At Fagan & Whalley, our people are at the heart of everything we do… But what is that, exactly? You may be familiar with the Fagan & Whalley name, having seen our trucks on the roads of the UK, but how much do you know about the people behind our operations?
In this series of articles, we speak with colleagues across departments to shed some light on what’s involved with their role and the part they play regarding the grander scheme of things here at Fagan & Whalley.
For this edition of team focus, we are speaking to Georgina Nelthorpe, the Warehouse Manager at our newest warehouse at Frontier Park, Blackburn. With a growing team of 23 people, Georgina’s role has been invaluable in shaping Frontier Park into the AA-grade BRCGS-certified warehouse that it is today.
So, let’s dive into what she had to say…
How long have you been working at Fagan & Whalley?
7 years
How has your specific job role changed or evolved since you began working here?
I started as a temporary worker in the warehouse back in 2016 – picking and packing. I moved into the offices a few months later, where I learned customer service as part of Frontier Park’s Customer Service team. Over the years, I’ve gradually moved my way up to my current position. I love it here!
What attracted you to Fagan & Whalley?
It was definitely how the company treated their staff. They have been so supportive of me, my sporting career and my goals.
What training / qualifications do you need to do your role?
Customer service skills are a must! It also helps that I’ve done several management courses and business administration experience.
Can you briefly walk us through what a typical day looks like for you?
Where to begin?! No day is ever the same – I’m always busy! I do everything from addressing customer service enquiries to overseeing the warehouse team to ensure targets are met. I’m also involved in management and health & safety meetings, constantly seeking out ways to improve our operations. On top of all of that, I also oversee accounts and team management. There’s never a dull moment!
Can you explain what impact your role has within the bigger picture of Fagan & Whalley?
Primarily, my position helps us improve customer client uptake within the warehousing department. This is an up-and-coming part of the business that is growing quickly and partners with the transport side of the business, too. Overall though, this is a huge effort from the whole warehouse team.
What are the biggest challenges you face within your role?
Meeting deadlines can be a challenge, but I’m always up for a challenge! I also strive to make sure the team morale stays high so that everyone feels at their best to perform optimally.
What’s one of the most memorable moments about your time here? Whether good or bad!
I’ll never forget the opening of Frontier Park, as this was the start of a new and exciting journey in the warehousing services we offer here at Fagan & Whalley!
What do you love the most about your job?
The people – they make the days fly!
How does technology impact your job, and what tools are most helpful?
Technology massively drives our daily operations, it makes sure targets are achieved and allows us to provide our customers with up-to-date information regarding their stock and products.
What personality traits do you think someone needs to succeed in your role?
Definitely initiative, drive and a positive and ‘can-do’ attitude!
Are there any memorable stories or experiences from your time at work?
Has to be representing Fagan and Whalley at various events such as UKWA Awards or The Burnley Business awards… and also consistently delivering a high level of service to our clients.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Outside of work, I love the gym, wrestling, and seeing my friends and family!
