Our site at Coventry was acquired in 2012 following a period of expansion in the business, and now provides a central location in the UK which is core for our operations.
Spanning 4 acres, our Coventry site is ideally located for a transport operation, having initially served as a coach depot for holiday travel company, Shearings. Over the years we’ve continued to make significant investments into the facilities to adapt the site to our requirements, most recently of which has involved substantial upgrades made in 2021 to improve the site’s safety and security.
“There’s actually been quite a lot of work put into developing the Coventry site over the years,” explains F&W Coventry Depot Manager, Chris Webb. “Whilst there was obviously ample space for our vehicles on site, we identified a number of areas where the space could be put to better use. For example, when we first acquired the depot, there were eighty female toilets on site, but only a relatively small team of staff operating there, so plans were drawn up to maximise the potential of the space, and it’s now a lot more functional and practical.
“When we reviewed the facilities at Coventry last year, it became clear to us that there was a potential for investment to be made in increasing the site’s safety and security, so that’s exactly what we did. With this, we sought to modernise the depot by upgrading the infrastructure and installing new equipment to provide a safer working environment. As well as remodelling the entrance area to incorporate a sliding gate and barriers where there was once a security hut, we also upgraded to a monitored CCTV system, and installed better lighting around the yard perimeter.”
Housing a team of around 30 staff, including planners, forklift truck operative and drivers, the Coventry site serves as a main hub for our valued clients with bases in the Midlands, providing a vital base to facilitate trade around the country.
“Currently, the depot offers a five-bay workshop, a small warehouse, and the facilities to support a small team of planning staff and drivers, whilst externally there is plenty of space to accommodate vehicles and storage for our clients’ transport needs, and to facilitate inter-depot trunking,” says Coventry Warehouse & Yard Supervisor, Jamie Walker-Shelton.
